21 Fun Valentine’s Day Movies to Watch with Your Kids This Year

For some easy, relaxing fun, watch some of these Valentine’s Day movies with your kids to celebrate the season of love!

It’s a cold February evening and you want to relax and do something Valentine’s-y with your kids – but you don’t want to make a mess of the kitchen or get out a billion craft supplies?

How about cuddling with your kiddos on the couch and watching a movie with just a little bit of romance instead?

Okay, let’s check out the Valentine’s Day movies for kids list, shall we?

The list in divided into three separate age groups:

  • Kids under 7
  • Ages 7-11
  • Kids ages 12+

You’ll see all the ratings listed for each movie, as well as the year it was released, the major actors and actresses, and a brief plot summary.

I’ve been careful to list movies that I feel are age appropriate, as well as sharing whether there are any elements of the movie you may want be aware of.

Valentine’s movies to watch with kids under 7

1.Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown

(Not rated, 2008, 1 hour 14 minutes)

If your kids enjoy the Charlie Brown holiday movies, this one is sure to be a hit too! Lucy is still trying to get Schroeder to notice her and Charlie Brown gives a special Valentine to his teacher.

Parent note: As with most Charlie Brown movies, Charlie Brown receives a fair amount of negativity from the Peanuts gang, which can be bothersome to some kids who have sensitive feelings.

2. Lady and the Tramp

(G, 1955, 1 hour 15 minutes)

In this beloved Disney classic, a pampered cocker spaniel and a rough and tumble mutt fall in love. For kids and nostalgic adults, this sweet movie contains the iconic spaghetti noodle kiss and plenty of songs, action, and fun to keep everyone entertained.

3. Beauty and the Beast

(G, 1991, 1 hour 24 minutes)

This animated Disney version is a beautiful story about a young woman who learns to look beyond outward appearances to find love. Featuring a strong, bookish heroine, this is one of the standout Disney princess movies that focuses on mature love instead of the typical love-at-first-sight story.

(If you haven’t seen the 2017 live action version yet, I highly recommend it for kids over 7 too!)

 

4. Frozen

(PG, 2013, 1 hour 42 minutes)

Winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, this incredible movie, with its blockbuster soundtrack, is always worth re-watching! The sweet story of love between two sisters and a budding romance based on trust make this a great addition to any Valentine’s movies for kids list.

 

5. Tangled

(PG, 2010, 1 hour 40 minutes)

This too-often-overlooked Disney Princess movie is wonderful for kids and is also filled with tons of hilarious humor for adults too. Beautiful animation and music accompany Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder throughout their adventure to find the golden lanterns.

 

6. Wall-E

(G, 2008, 1 hour 38 minutes)

In this charming Disney Pixar movie, Wall-E the robot is the only living thing left on an over-polluted earth. Upon meeting a female robot name Eve, he goes on an incredible journey and encounters humans who’ve been waiting for confirmation that it’s

7. If You Give a Mouse a Valentine’s Day Cookie

(Not Rated, 2020, 22 minutes)

In this Amazon Prime original movie, the well-loved mouse creates a giant Valentine’s Day cookie for his human. The only trouble is, he isn’t quite sure how he can get it home in one piece.

If you have a kiddo who loves the If You Give a … series by …, they’ll sure to love this cute 22-minute movie too!

Valentine’s movies for kids ages 7-11

8. Enchanted

(PG, 2007, 1 hour 47 minutes)

In this sweet movie, a classic Disney fairytale occurs in the middle of New York City. With Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and James Marsden, this movie is full of catchy music, fun choreography, and a story kids and parents will both enjoy.

9. Cinderella

(PG, 2015, 2 hours 23 minutes)

This live action Disney Cinderella is an absolutely wonderful improvement over the old animated classic. With Helena Bonham-Carter and Cate Blanchett, this newer version focus on qualities such as kindness and courage and is an inspiration to kids and adults alike.

 

10. High School Musical

(PG, 2006, 1 hour 27 minutes)

This classic early 2000’s movie is full of fun song and dance numbers your kids will find entertaining! The sweet story of Gabriella finding her way at a new school, making friends, and finding young love.

11. Gnomeo and Juliet 

(G, 2011, 1 hour 23 minutes)

In a fun retelling of the Shakespearean classic, two garden gnomes from opposing families fall in love. An all-star voice cast of Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, and James McAvoy make this fun movie extra special.

12. Frozen 2

(PG, 2019, 1 hour 43 minutes)

The long-awaited sequel to the blockbuster Frozen, this movie does not disappoint. With beautiful imagery, inspiring music, and lots of funny moments, this is one of our very favorite movies for the whole family.

13. The Parent Trap

(PG, 1998, 2 hours 8 minutes)

An awesome remake of the classic film from the 1960’s, this movie tells the story of two separated twins who meet accidentally and hatch a plot to reunite their parents.

14.  The Princess Diaries

(G, 2001, 1 hour 55 minutes)

When Mia, a fifteen-year-0ld girl, finds out she is the princess of Genovia, she has a lot of princess training to undergo! With a young Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, this classic Disney movie has a wonderful message about the power of impact.

Valentine’s movies to watch with kids ages 12+

15. Kate and Leopold

(PG-13, 2001, 1 hour 58 minutes)

When a 19th century duke lands in modern-day New York due to a break in the fabric of time, he falls for a no-nonsense advertising executive. Will his chivalry be enough to win her over?

Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan are wonderful in this movie, but be sure to pay attention to the humor the supporting cast brings to the film too. 

Parent note: there is at least one instance of strong profanity and a few instances of mild profanity. 

16. The Princess Bride

(PG, 1987, 1 hour 38 minutes)

This quintessential 80’s movie is a romantic comedy for everyone! When young Fred Savage falls ill, his grandpa comes over to tell him a story and keep him company. What follows is a story of giants, princesses, pirates, robbers, and more.

17. The Young Victoria

(PG, 2009, 1 hour 44 minutes)

The lovely story of the young Queen Victoria and her trials and travails of choosing a husband and their early married life. Sticking fairly close to actual history, this movie is beautifully done – from the costumes to the sets to the excellent acting.

18. Serendipity

(PG-13, 2001, 1 hour 30 minutes)

Jonathan and Sara meet and share one magical evening in New York City, but they are both in different relationships. Realizing their chemistry, they decide to send two items out into the world with the potential to bring them back together when fate will allow.

Parent note: there is one scene of implied sex between two minor characters.

19. Little Women

(PG, 2019, 2 hours 15 minutes)

The beloved story about the four March sisters comes to the screen again in the newest film adaptation. Sticking fairly close to the book, this is a wonderful movie about both family and romantic devotion.

20. My Big Fat Greek Wedding

(PG, 2002, 1 hour 34 minutes)

Always surrounded by her large extended Greek family, Toula gets everyone’s attention when she falls in love with a man who is anything but Greek!

Parent note: there is one scene of implied sex between the main characters

21. The Wedding Planner

(PG-13, 2001, 1 hour 43 minutes)

When Mary (Jennifer Lopez) meets the man of her dreams (Matthew McConaughey) she is mortified to find out he is the groom in one of the weddings she is planning. A humorous and sweet story about staying true to your heart that parents and teens will enjoy.
